It’s the end of another year and the start of another Christmas, and this is the time of year we look back with thanks at all the lovely guests who have stayed with us and give a little something back.
Our chosen charity for 2024 has again been Liam’s Next Step. It is wonderful to see this local lad make such progress in his determination to walk after years in a wheelchair.
Liam was diagnosed with an extensive spinal cord cancer at aged 11 years and from a young age has undergone years of chemotherapy, operations and physio and has been a full time wheelchair user throughout.
For the past couple of years he has been participating in an intensive specialist neurological physiotherapy plan. It is not funded by the NHS and so to achieve his dream of walking again he must continually work and fundraise.
We have again given a donation for each booking we have taken this year so we are thrilled to let our guests know that a holiday at Home Farm not only creates memories for themselves and their family but also helps Liam on his journey.
This year has not been an easy one for Liam. Here’s what he told us about his 2024:
“This year has been the most difficult year of the journey so far with quite a few set backs and hospital admissions.
Despite this I’ve refused to quit and still attended everysingle session. I have still made progress, and definitely improved strength. My walking has also improved but an issue on my foot is making it harder.
In January I’ve got a bone reconstruction surgery plannedon my left foot. Which if all goes to plan it will make everything so mucheasier going forward and enable me to massively kick on next year.
Sometimes it’s important to look back to realise just how far you’ve come.”
Without a doubt Liam has come a long way and we are proud to be supporting him. So a huge thank you to our guests, some new, many returning, for both choosing Home Farm Scarborough for your holiday and for helping us help Liam.
